Many, many more would install Solar if the Utility paid those that installed Solar for the energy they put INTO the grid, at the very same rate that the Utility charges for that same Energy to folks that take Energy OUT of the Grid! By not paying the same amount, the Utility shareholders receive additional money they do not deserve and the folks that have installed solar end up with a much longer payback period!

actually the power companies should pay the highest spot price of the day the electicity is put into their system by the customer’s alt. green energy since that is what they would have to do if they had to buy it from other power companies.
Yes they should but the Utilities have powerful friend in government, many with their own shares of stock, that are dragging their feet in order to “limit” the growth of solar in the USA!
Then huge numbers will install Solar!
Users now have an option, that is why the Utilities are VERY worried now!

According to EWEA analysis on the true costs of electricity, nuclear will cost €102 /MWh in 2020 – the average price across Europe taking into account the fact that nuclear plants take a long time to build which pushes up the initial capital cost. Onshore wind energy meanwhile will see a price drop by 2020 falling to €58 /MWh and offshore wind will cost €75 /MWh.
Nuclear will require significant investment in the short and medium term at a rate of at least double the current level of investment, the Court says. Moreover, new plants are likely to be much more expensive to construct.

Notice this was done in 2000 and since then the rate of “wear” has increased dramatically especially at San Onofre and a few other reactors!
This is very bad news for the industry because the replacement of these will be very expensive and may actually be cause to shut the reactor down for good!

i am very interested in this issue, i find the music loop in background to be unhelpful in listening to the audio here,
The primary loop is lightly radioactive, usually Tritium. Other radionuclides such as Cesium or Xenon in the primary indicates a broken or defective fuel assembly which would shut the reactor and require a cleanup of the pressure vessel. The first containment is the zircalloy fuel rod cladding.
Contamination of the primary by radioisotopes will cause corrosion, BTW. If there was a broken fuel rod in the core sometime in the past w/ no cleanup the resulting contamination would effect the steam generator.
When the steam generator leaks there is a pressure drop (and efficiency loss) of the primary which also leads to a shutdown b/c the core is insufficiently cooled.
Keep in mind that ANY Tritium inside the reactor core will wind up outside b/c it is a form of Hydrogen. It migrates though many metals.
Problem is the steam generator is massively costly. Somebody is looking at a repair bill as the steam generators will probably have to be replaced. Who pays? Probably a billion $$$.
What does Southern California Edison pay for the solar power that is generated by private citizens home systems? I can tell you. I receive 3 cents per kilowatt for the power I put back into the grid on MY CAPITAL INVESTMENT. That kilowatt travels to my next door neighbor’s house and he pays SCE anywhere from 17 to 54 cents per kilowatt (various tiers). The Public Utility Commision was lobbied by SCE and did little for solar or the public. What a great mark-up for doing nothing but billing the customer!
SCEdison San Onofre employees refuse to buy any Edison stock for their 401K plans because they know if there are many problems at the plant someday their stock could easily become worthless.
