Mission Viejo City Council voted unanimously to send a letter regarding San Onofre “…requesting that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission and Southern California Edison continue to take prudent and cautionary steps while a careful analysis of the excessive tube wear is conducted and thorough review of the plant’s future viability is determined. The City of Mission Viejo City Council requests that all involved agencies take a careful, methodical approach while considering any potential reopening of the plant.”

The letter, dated August 9, 2012, was addressed to NRC Chairman Allison Macfarlane, with copies to Mission Viejo City Council and City Manager, South Orange County Mayors and City Managers, OC Supervisor Pat Bates, Southern California Edison (Frank Wasko), California Public Utilities Commission, Interjurisdictional Planning Committee, Senators Mimi Walters, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, Congressmen Gary Miller and John Campbell and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

    Mission Viejo- now that the election is over, we must focus on this nuclear waste issue at San Onofre. Who is heading this up, and what can we as citizens do to help you help us? We cannot continue to store nuclear waste in containers guaranteed to leak soon. HELP. SOS!
